Mark Allen Smith, a 51-year-old missing Independence Kentucky man was last seen February 16, 2012 at his home and at BP gas station at Taylor Mill Road and I-275 where he made a credit card transaction. Assistant Independence Police Chief David Nichols said they have followed up on every lead and are stumped as to what could have happened. He also said there was nothing that was obvious that could explain why he is missing.
Relatives of Mark Smith are distraught over his disappearance and begged the public for clues that could lead them to the missing man. Lately, Smith had been working for Baker Concrete Construction and had been temporarily laid off but was getting ready to return to work. He had received his tax return and was able to keep up on his bills, so there was not any indication of any financial trouble either. He had also drove to the Mount Airy Guardian Savings Bank to make a deposit and to pay his mortgage before he came a missing. His truck is a 1999 Ford Ranger registered with Kentucky plates 816-AYX.

Smith has a tattoo of a red heart with the name ribbon. Later, the name ribbon was filled in to conceal the name. He's also had numerous surgeries and there are surgical scars on his right shoulder area and also on his stomach near the navel area.
Missing from his hometown of Independence, Kentucky for almost 7 weeks now, police and relatives are still trying to hold out hope that Mark Smith will be found well but need more leads. He is a white male, 220 to 230 pounds and 6 foot 1 inches to 6 foot 3 inches in height. He has brown hair with hazel eyes.
